Effective January 15, 2022, the Occupational Safety and Health Admnistration (OSHA) is authorized to assess higher fines against employers based on the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index. The new fine schedule is:

Type of Violation               Maximum Penalty

Serious or

Other-Than-Serious             $14,502 per violation

Failure to Abate                   $14,502 per day beyond the abatement date

Willful or Repeat                 $145,027 per violation

As you can see, multiple violations and willful repeat violations can involve substantial penalties making it more important than ever to comply with OSHA regulations. Furthermore, employers should be very mindful of any past citations to avoid circumstances which might result in an alleges repeat violation.
